Did you know that many common health issues are related to hormone imbalance? Hormones play a huge role in our overall health, and when they're out of balance, they can cause all sorts of problems. If you're feeling off-kilter, frustratingly bloated, or like your energy levels vary wildly from day to day, it might be time to check your hormones. This guide will teach you everything you need to know about hormones and how to restore balance for optimal health. Happy reading! Hormones.
They can play absolute havoc with our lives. Hormones affect absolutely every single part of your body. They affect gut function just as gut function affects hormone balance. Hormones affect our mental health and degeneration along with every other aspect of our health. In my line of work, hormones play a pretty large role in regaining health. Trust me when I say that these tips will help you get on track to optimal health. We have around 200 different hormones and hormone-like substances that have been discovered in the body so far. These include stress hormones from the adrenals, digestive, and energy conversion hormones, and of course, sex hormones. They move in synchronicity in every part of our body, like a coordinated dance affecting and influencing each other. That is until one kicks up a fuss and creates complete havoc in the order. How do we try and maintain this balance? First step: blood sugar balance. Blood sugar irregularities not only make us cranky and “hangry.” They also affect sex hormones. This is because insulin, which is released when sugar appears in the system, goes up to push that sugar into the cells for energy. If it's not regulated, then having consistently high insulin levels can affect the amounts of circulating estrogen and can lead to estrogen dominance. Also, when that insulin level then comes down, because what goes up must come down, it drops very quickly. This can then cause a stress response in the body. Stress response releases, cortisol - the stress hormone. Cortisol is often spoken about, but it is not the enemy. It is vital to keep us alive. We want to keep it in check because if cortisol is consistently high, that can lead to inflammation in the body. It can even damage the brain. Next up: Keep stress in check To do this, we can add meditation, and restorative exercises such as yoga, Tai Chi, and breathing exercises that calm the nervous system. Go out, do some fishing, and have a walk through nature. These are extremely effective ways of calming down the nervous system. Next: nutrient deficiencies. For this, we have to consider restrictive diets. There are plenty of these and they are becoming more and more popular. Diet is very important when it comes to hormones. The food you eat provides energy and nutrients that help produce hormones. For example, iodine, magnesium, Vitamin B6, and Omega 3 are all required for sex hormone balance. Then we have vitamin D, zinc, magnesium, and calcium, which have all been found to impact PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). All of these nutrients together are required at different stages in the production, conversion, and clearance of hormones. If you are on a diet, and you still don't feel good, you may want to try a balanced whole food diet. This includes all the macro and micronutrients and adds a really good multivitamin and multi-mineral to the diet. With this, we need good digestive function. It's not just what you eat. It's what you eat and digest. If you can't digest the above nutrients, then you're pretty stuck. In which case you could try some digestive enzymes whilst working on getting that gut health sorted. Lastly, I'm going to mention the liver. The liver is important for converting hormones, like a lot of the thyroid hormone, and for carrying sex hormones like estrogen. You can help keep your hormones balanced by eating healthy foods like beetroots and other vegetables. You should also try to have a cleanse now and then to keep your liver healthy.
